How will you use the space? Open a room guide for a practical starting point and the fittings to explore.
Start with comfortable general light. Add a pendant above the table or a lamp beside your favourite chair.
Share room dimensions, ceiling height and the position of dining tables or seating. Consider which lights you want to use independently in the evening.
Separate everyday light from bedside light. A bedside or wall light gives you a focused source without relying on the whole room being brightly lit.
Tell us your bed position, ceiling height and where switches or power points are located. Check dimming compatibility if you want adjustable brightness.
Plan around your counters. General ceiling light and task lighting beneath cabinets can serve different needs. Pendants can define an island or breakfast area.
Send a photo or plan showing cabinets, counter lengths and the island. Ask us to check the complete strip-light setup and suitable positioning.
Think about the mirror and the room separately. Explore mirror lighting alongside general ceiling lighting.
Suitability depends on the fitting and its installation position. Send the layout and product details so the required moisture protection can be checked before installation.
Start with entrances and the routes you use. Then consider garden features, walls or places to sit.
Share a site photo, exposed locations and existing power points. Check the IP rating, mounting and control arrangements for each position.
Begin with the task and the space. General illumination, product displays and high-ceiling areas need different approaches.
Send floor area, ceiling height, working hours and photos or drawings. Mateen can help prepare a product shortlist and quotation, or discuss a survey.
03 / Light in layers
A ceiling light, a reading light and a little emphasis can each do a different job. See how the layers work together.

Six things worth checking before you order. Bring us your questions, photos or floor plan if you need a hand.
Colour temperature describes how warm or cool white light appears. It is separate from brightness.
Illustrative colour samples, not a calibrated preview. Available temperatures and switching methods vary by model.
Lumens describe light output; watts describe power consumption. When comparing products for brightness, look for lumens where listed.
The light reaching a surface also depends on beam spread, mounting height and the room. Share room dimensions and its purpose for help planning.
Check the fitting dimensions, ceiling height and available mounting space. A recessed light needs the correct cut-out and suitable space above the ceiling.
For pendants, check the fitting size and suspension length against your ceiling and furniture. Send a photo and measurements if you are unsure.
Do not assume an LED fitting or bulb can be dimmed. The lamp or fitting, driver and dimmer must be compatible.
Send the model details of your existing dimmer and proposed light. Fan-speed controls and light dimmers should not be treated as interchangeable without manufacturer confirmation.
Check the product’s stated IP rating and installation instructions for the intended location. A fitting suitable for one position may not suit another.
Share a photo or layout showing exposure to water and the planned mounting point so suitability can be checked.
A product may include its light source, use a replaceable bulb, or be a fitting sold without the bulb or connector.
Check what is included, the bulb base or connector, and any driver requirements. Ask us to confirm the complete shopping list before ordering.
Tell us the total length, intended position and the effect you want. Check the strip voltage, power requirements, connection method and selling unit.
Drivers or adapters, controllers, connectors and profiles must match the selected system. Do not assume accessories are included or interchangeable.
Send us a room photo, floor plan or lighting list. Tell us how you use the space, the look you like and when you need it.
